Dungeons and Dragons: Castle Ravenloft Board Game

Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Well gear up your imaginations, because the new Dungeons and Dragons: Castle Ravenloft Board Game is here. If you’ve played the board games before you’ll immediately know of the quality, and Castle Ravenloft takes it to the next level both for old fans and for new gamers.

When people think of Dungeons and Dragons, many imagine a group of geeky types crowded around a table, enacting complicated stories with a mind boggling array of dice, skills and data. The wonderful thing about the Dungeons and Dragons: Castle Ravenloft Board Game is that it is far more accessible than this preconceptions suggest, so can be easily played as a novice. The rules are simplified and engaging so that newbies can easily discover the appeal of the game, as it crosses the divide between standard board games and the more complex role playing games. Whether old or new, you and the 1-5 players taking part are sure to be hooked, whatever your age.

The story is that a dinner party is being held by the Master of Ravenloft. Things take a turn for the dramatic, and you manoeuvre through the castle, learning more about the story incrementally as more chambers are presented to you, and as you guide your chosen heroes. The board is made up of player tiles, which are customised to make each new original level. There are character cards so you can choose who you play as, each with their own strengths and weaknesses in battle. There are monster cards to display the same and even magic cards to give you the moves to combat them with, along with exciting items that are found in coffins etc. Danger lurks around every corner, and not all of you may survive in this epic battle between good and evil.
There are many pieces to this game, but they are colour co-ordinated for ease of use and so that you can get a lie of the land at just a glance of the board as you access the threats that are building up for your brave character. Animals are brown; Zombies, skeletal dragons and other undead are in white; ghosts are translucent blue; main villains are dark grey and the brave heroes are light grey. With these colour co-ordinations you are sure to find it easier to spot what kind of enemy approaches and use the suitable defence and attack against them.

To add a twist to your gaming experience, the manufacturer also includes a scenario booklet along with the rules. This booklet allows you to choose which scenario you want to play, which influences how the game is won, and allows for a lot of unexpected flexibility so that the game can be enjoyed again and again in fresh new ways, and also allows you flexibility with the time limits of each game: whether you want a quick game that is over within an hour or two, or a more epic struggle that could last days.

It is no surprise, then, that the new Dungeons and Dragons: Castle Ravenloft Game has gained so much praise at conventions prior to its release, sending many clamouring for a copy on its release date. Certainly worth the hype, this is perfect as a new gaming experience to entertain the family with, especially this Christmas.
